About

I am a Ph.D. student in Water Resources Engineering at Texas A&M University. I study how lakes, rivers and reservoirs change over space and time, using satellite records that span decades and models that connect those changes to climate and human activity.

Research

Surface water dynamics

Multi-decadal Landsat records of lakes, rivers and reservoirs across China: a 50,000+ water-body database (1987–2020), and monthly area series for ~5,000 reservoirs reconstructed pixel by pixel on Google Earth Engine. Separating climate signals from human regulation in water-body seasonality.

Reservoir evaporation & water management

Quantifying evaporation losses from reservoirs with energy-balance methods that account for heat storage and wind. Currently building a historical daily evaporation dataset for Texas reservoirs and assessing long-term trends to inform state water planning.

Deep learning for Earth observation

Transfer learning (Inception-V3) to recognize construction waste in high-resolution imagery, and semantic segmentation (DeepLab) with GaoFen spectral data to map photovoltaic power plants across China.

Field Work

Three seasons with the Second Comprehensive Scientific Expedition to the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau: hiking to glaciers at 4,000 m, sampling water, soil and vegetation along thirteen rivers and alpine lakes, and measuring velocity, discharge and sediment at hydrological stations and reservoirs.
